What is Happening?
Richie Mensah, The brain behind one of the most successful record labels in Ghana, Lynx Entertainment, has finally opened up to share his skills and knowledge with anyone ready to listen.
For almost two decades, Richie Mensah has provided the Ghanaian and African music market with incredible talents and hitmakers who have earned their place in the heart of Ghanaians and their space in the global music market. However, the shy and reserved nature of Richie Mensah has made coming by his knowledge very difficult.
During his 37th birthday, Richie decided to go against his nature and be more open and willing to share wisdom and knowledge accumulated over the years with the younger generation or anyone looking to learn from him. With over 25 episodes out already, Richie has shared topics like creative leaders, discipline, uniqueness, and practice through his official social media platforms.
What are people saying?
Those who have thought that Richie Mensah's reticence over the years does not help build the next generation of music executives have had a field day since the arrival of the new online series.
Those who need practical guidance and knowledge on operating in the music industry see this as an opportunity to learn from the very best and inculcate those values in their everyday life.
The Talkative:
Transferring knowledge from one person to another is an excellent sign of a great leader. In Ghana, sharing knowledge and skills between older or experienced people and the younger generation has always been a problem. And this stalls the growth of the industry. Either by the fault of the younger generation's complacency or disrespect and disregard for the older generation, there is a hindrance in knowledge transfer.
In other situations, most experienced people are usually unwilling to share knowledge. They would instead brighten their corner or not find the work ethics or behaviour of the young generation attractive enough to associate with them. This, of course, has found a way of delaying the growth of the various creative industries in Ghana since everyone has to find their way out without proper mentorship from people with the skills and technical know-how in the field.
"Work Hard" is usually the go-to answer from experienced people to those looking for directions. Richie Mensah's decision to give a bit more than "work hard" is highly applaudable and hopefully inspires other experienced creative executives to overlook the noise and prioritise impartation and impaction to help build the future of the industry they love.
This is also an opportunity for the young generation to learn and make what he is doing a worthwhile investment. The positive feedback from Ghanaians has kept his vim going, which is commendable. However, mainstream media has yet to pick up on this and amplify it enough for the masses to know the good thing Richie has started and to shed more light on the knowledge he has shared so far.
Richie and his team deserve credit for a concerted effort to develop a future generation of performers and a young age of music executives to take the reins.
