PRAYERS OVER EDUCATION AND INVESTMENT? SHATTA WALE TO INTERCEDE FOR THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY
"I am a child of God".- Shatta Wale
What happened?
As part of the lineup for the upcoming Freedom Wave festival in December, celebrated reggae dancehall act Shatta Wale, in collaboration with Medikal, is dedicating a day to praying for the entertainment industry in Ghana. Dubbed "Prayers for the industry", the artist will intercede spiritually for the entire industry for its protection and growth.
What are people saying?
Most people find this suggestion laughable. To some people, prayers are not the solution to the problems of the Ghanaian creative industry. Others do not understand how the event will be done; most wonder if it will be done with gospel acts, pastors or spiritual leaders and if it will include other entertainers for the intercession prayers.
Others believe it is a good call and deserve all hands on deck. Most people who understand and appreciate spiritual things think the industry needs such prayers for its protection and development.
The Talkative:
Prayers for the industry on the Freedom Waves festival was not a surprise because Shatta Wale has always been passionate about prayers and things of the spirit. In most cases, Shatta Wale quoted the Bible and used prayers and his strong relationship with God in his defence. That makes his call for general prayers unsurprising, but the exemption of education and investment was questionable on the event lineup.
Another thing Shatta Wale has been passionate about is education. The artist seized the slightest opportunity to point out what others were not doing right, and with his huge following and undeniable influence on the younger generation of music creators and lovers, an educational forum by Shatta Wale, Medikal and some industry Gurus should have been the highlight of the festival. This will help imbibe some of his experiences and in-depth knowledge acquired in the creative sector into the younger generation of musicians to help avoid some rookie mistakes.
The industry's future will look much brighter with the proper education from successful musicians like Shatta Wale, Medikal and some of his colleagues to the new musicians.
Investment and investment opportunities for the creative industry were another thing that needed space at the Freedomwave festival. Like Prayers and education, Shatta Wale and Medikal are equally passionate about money, getting cash to run the industry, and elevating its dealings to the next level. An investor forum with potential and current investors, pointing them to some of the avenues in the business they can invest in, would have been a great addition to the festival.
A fair blend of prayers, education and investment, would have tackled most of the problems of the creative industry instead of just prayers.
