The Italian Embassy gives Latif Abubakar's Globe Production "the Licence" to adapt a Luigi Pirandello play.

Lo spettacolo deve andare avanti!

What Happened?

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, HE Daniela D'Orlandi, hosted the Ghanaian Press for the official launch of a creative initiative in partnership with Latif Abubakar's Globe Productions.

It was a beautiful ceremony with media, cast and crew at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador to launch a production, "The Licence", in partnership with the ingenious Ghanaian-based theatre group. The play "The Licence" is by a celebrated Nobel-winning author from Italy in the 20th Century, Luigi Pirandello.

What are people saying:

At the event, The Ambassador, HE Daniela D'Orlandi, was thrilled about the collaboration with Latif Abubakar, and this partnership was borne out of her experience watching the recent cooperation between the Spanish embassy and Latif's Globe production. During the production, she had her Aha moment: "The Italian Embassy has to be next" The use of humour, brilliant delivery of lines and the impeccable display of the characters is what makes Globe Productions the perfect vessels to embody the comical yet powerful words of the iconic Italian novelist.

"He presents theatre in a bold and audacious way", she emphasised.

Latif Abubakar also shared his excitement about working with the Italian Embassy on this project. He believes that theatre is an excellent vehicle for transporting the cultures of both worlds. With an insatiable thirst for theatre in Ghana, serving his audience with a Ghanaian blend of Italian comedy will take theatre in Ghana to the next phase. He expressed his excitement for the partnership and assured Ghanaians of an unforgettable experience at the Accra Conference Centre on the 4th, 5th and 6th of May 2024.

"This partnership seeks to put the Ghanaian Theatre and Country on the World Stage", he stressed.

The Talkative:

Like every other art form, theatre has the power to educate, entertain, inform and transform lives. While the leaders of Ghana have yet to realise this, it is exciting to see foreign diplomats who have the creative arts, specifically theatre, rooted in the culture shun some light on theatre groups in Ghana. A partnership with the Italian Embassy to adapt one of the biggest plays from Italy will not only put the Ghanaian theatre group on Italy's radar but will serve as a classroom to learn more about Italian culture. Every rehearsal ground is a classroom to learn about the Italian culture of the 20th century.

While introducing its culture to the Ghanaian audience, the Italian audience will also learn a bit more about the Ghanaian culture through a flawless adaptation, the best of both worlds.

Hopefully, this partnership will extend beyond the borders of Ghana; all Italian embassies across the GLOBE will enjoy this PRODUCTION.
